Common issues and how to resolve them.

SnapNote runs completely offline, so most issues can be resolved by simply closing and reopening the app.

Troubleshooting

WSL Not Installed

If you encounter errors related to WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), you may need to install it first.

To install WSL:

  1. Open PowerShell as an administrator (right-click → "Run as administrator")

  2. Run the following command:

   wsl --install
  1. Restart your computer when prompted

  2. After restarting, WSL will complete its setup automatically

Snip Not Capturing Correctly

If your snip isn't capturing the area you selected, or the capture appears blank or distorted:

  1. Close SnapNote completely

  2. Reopen the app and try snipping again

  3. If the issue continues, confirm you're running the latest version of SnapNote (updates are sent to your email)

App Not Responding

If SnapNote freezes or becomes unresponsive:

  1. Close SnapNote completely (you may need to use Task Manager if the app won't close normally)

  2. Reopen the app

  3. If the issue persists, restart your computer and try again

PDF Upload Failing

If you're unable to upload a PDF for chat:

  • Check the file size — PDFs must be under 50MB

  • Check for password protection — Remove any password protection before uploading

  • Scanned documents — Scanned PDFs may require OCR (optical character recognition) processing to be readable
