We started Clarent because we saw a gap that frustrated us. As AI tools became more capable, they also became more invasive, asking users to hand over sensitive information to distant servers in exchange for convenience. We thought that tradeoff was unnecessary—and we weren't the only ones. So we got to work building local-first AI for people who care about what happens to their data: students protecting their research, professionals in healthcare and finance, and anyone who's ever hesitated before pasting something into a chatbox.

We're a small, scrappy team motivated by a simple goal: to change how people use AI day to day, one private snip at a time. SnapNote is our first step, and we're just getting started.
